The show season starts again........

Having a little time on my hands yesterday (and a little person to entertain) I ventured out with 'mini HV' to the nearby Woolsery Show.

This is a lovely little country affair offering a sprinkling of everything yet remaining traditional and friendly.

Once again, the unpredictability of the 'British Summer' had meant that it was waterproofs in hand, wellies on and head down in the hope of not getting hit by assorted flying agricultural objects.

We battled through what can be loosely described as a picnic. This involved mixing cold baby slop in the prevailing wind whilst balanced on a half-submerged-into-the-filed piece of garden furniture.....

I'm glad to report that the (slightly alarmed) loose cow got rounded up safely, the food tent didn't quite blow away and I am actually quite skillful when it comes to single handedly navigating through a treacle-fest of mud with my buggy. (I'm a bit of a buggy/mud virgin if the truth be known.)

Anyway, I'm off to Dunster Country Fair tomorrow with the Hunting Vintage stall and am hoping that the weather will be kinder. But if its not, lets hope everyone (just like me) will just carry on in any case......

If you are out for the day, come and say hello and I hope you have a super day!

Kerry x

Oh goodness - what a suprise!

Hello All....

Due to a suprise HV baby arriving during the first week of August we have decided that it's probably best to give the 2014 summer shows and fairs a miss this year - we don't want any showground mishaps!

I will, however, be pottering about uploading stock onto the website so if you are local to North Devon and would like to come for a rummage in the shop, drop me an email/call and we can arrange a suitable time.

It is my aim to get as much stock onto the website as possible over the next few weeks so it can be posted out - at the moment I'm wondering where the time is going...!

You are more than welcome to order a selection of items from the site such as jackets, coats, boots etc to try at home and then return anything that is not suitable for a refund. (This has been made much easier by some great courier companies that have some very reasonable shipping rates.)

donkey and baby

Hopefully some kind of normality will be resumed by December as we have booked in for the Equine Fair at Westpoint, Exeter which is on the 6th and 7th - yeah!

(Is this a little bit hopeful!?) x

Christmas Shopping & The SW Christmas Equine Fair

Well......It seems that the Christmas shopping has begun!

HV has had a busy week or so but we still have plenty of stock available in most things. Its just some of the beautiful vintage items that have begun to sell out fast. I suppose the older, vintage pieces make super presents in that they are so unique and are always well made and of exceptional quality - even if they do have a 'worn in' look and could tell a story or two!

You can buy on-line via the website here or we also have some items available via Ebay (morehuntingvintage)

Payment on the site is by secure gateway for credit cards and also by Paypal.

If you are local you are more than welcome to call to arrange a time to pop in and visit. Please bear in mind that sometimes things may be a little bit upside down as we have periods 'in transit' when we are off to a show/fair or just returning. A bit like the next couple of days....

Anyone going to the South West Christmas Equine Fair at Westpoint, Exeter this weekend will find us in the annexe.

Come and say hello. The first three people on each day to come and say the magic password will be able to choose a free stock or stock pin of their choice......

The magic words are: 'Tally Ho!'

We will even have some choccies on the go so please pop over and see us.

Conical glass flasks - stick to tradition or add a twist?

HV is lucky enough to have an amazing glass blower who makes all the conical glass flasks to order.

He also repairs defective glass and creates beautiful replacements for sadly broken or lost vintage pieces.

For a while now I have been pondering over the conical glass flask!

Its slender and weighty and perfect in every way but sometimes I like to be just that little bit different.... I suddenly thought about adding a dash of colour to spice things up a bit.

And here we have the first sample - the cranberry glass flask!

I think it looks amazing. I am told each one will vary in depth of colour, tone and whether it fades at the top or the bottom.

So certainly something unique to treasure and use forever.

Colours which look good in glass are blue, green and amber (although for a drinks flask this may not be desirable!)

These flasks will be made to order and will therefore take some time depending on how busy the glass workshop is.

Let me know your thoughts?

I,  for one, would love to be bought a present like this for Christmas!!

Whats in your flask?

What's in your hip/saddle flask....?

I usually fill my hip flask with port at the last minute but theres a whole world of alcohol out there so surely there must be something a little more exciting?

Joanne Manghan from Northumberland has kindly suggested her top tipple:

Percy's Special

Its a 50-50 mix of Southern Comfort and Cherry Brandy (apparently De Kuypers is best).

Sounds yummy (except for the fact that I had an 'incident' with Southern Comfort in my teens and the mere smell of it now makes me want to heave!)

Rita, a friend of mine, swears by Glayva - whatever that is when its at home!

Peregrine Brumage likes Stones Green Ginger Wine with Irish

Let HV know your favourite flask fillers.......
